Nick Buhl
Nick Buhl serves as the HPC Systems Integrator and Operations Lead at the Alabama Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence (AAICE), where he drives the integration, management, and accessibility of cutting-edge AI infrastructure. With a deep expertise in High-Performance Computing (HPC) and a passion for fostering collaboration, Nick plays a pivotal role in ensuring that AAICE’s DGX systems empower researchers, businesses, and universities to unlock the potential of artificial intelligence in Alabama and beyond.
As the primary point of contact for AAICE’s users, Nick oversees the day-to day operations of the organization’s DGX infrastructure, including user account management, workload optimization, and system maintenance. Beyond his technical contributions, Nick has become a recognized figure at AAICE’s community and workforce development events, representing the organization at key initiatives like HATCH 24 alongside NVIDIA and delivering impactful training sessions to academic institutions like Tuskegee University. His ability to bridge the gap between technical expertise and community outreach has been instrumental in advancing AAICE’s mission.
Nick’s journey to AAICE began after earning his Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering from Auburn University in 2023. With roots in Franklin, TN, and a foundation in engineering, Nick’s career reflects a steadfast commitment to growth and innovation, culminating in a prominent role within Alabama’s AI ecosystem. Recognizing the transformative potential of bringing AI to underserved regions, Nick is driven by a vision of making Alabama a leader in technology and culture, turning the state from a national afterthought into a hub of innovation and opportunity.
Noteworthy achievements include developing a Boll-Weevil classifier model, training Tuskegee faculty and students in Linux, Docker, and AI workflows, and co-instructing NVIDIA’s DLI “Fundamentals of Deep Learning” course. He also played a role in the successful deployment of AAICE resources for cancer genomics research and continues to spearhead new grant-writing collaborations with partners like Tuskegee. Nick is certified in NVIDIA’s Fundamentals of Deep Learning and Data Parallelism courses and is working toward becoming a certified NVIDIA DLI Ambassador.
Looking ahead, Nick envisions AAICE as a driving force behind Alabama’s digital transformation, with AI as the cornerstone for workforce development and technological progress. His long-term goal is to position AAICE as a leader in educating and empowering communities to embrace AI. An aspiring executive and public advocate, Nick is committed to cultivating an inclusive AI ecosystem that unites universities, businesses, and individuals to improve lives through innovation.
